Muneer Khan, Inspector General Of Police, Jammu and Kashmir addressing press media, said Ismail an A++ category terrorist directly responsible for Amarnath yatra attack on 10th July who killed seven pilgrims, was shot dead in a fierce encounter in Nowgam, in the outskirts of Srinagar. He expressed relief, saying that a chapter of Amarnath Yatri killers has been closed.
Two AK-47 rifles and other explosive materials were found near the dead bodies.
In a remarkable joint operation that was launched and killed two terrorists hiding in a small house, the police identified the dead bodies as terrorists Abu Ismail and Abu Qasim alias Chota Qasim. Abu Ismail had 15 FIRs against him for murder, dacoity and other terrorist related incidents.
Higher officials congratulated the police in operation, CRPF personnel and 15 Rashtriya Rifles soldiers for “executing a wonderful operation with no collateral damage”.
Major General BS Raju, general officer commanding of Victor Force said that the encounter was an important one because Ismail was directly responsible for the death of 14 security personnel and eight civilians.
When asked who their next “target” is, Khan said, “It’s not about the next target. Ismail was an A++ category terrorist. It is important to neutralise the militant leadership.”
Ismail had replaced former LeT commander Abu Dujana following the latter’s death during an encounter in August.
