A man who truly believed in his cause..And the first man to wear a sanitary napkin.

mens napkinFor Arunachalam Muruganatham the saying THE FRUIT OF PAIN IS REWARDING turned out to be true. A workshop helper by profession in a small shed in Coimbatore is now the owner of Jayaashree Industries that manufactures Low Cost Napkins.

The fascinating journey from a helper who was rejected several times by the same women whose lives he is trying to change now committed to create jobs for a million women.

After being rejected support by his own wife, own sisters and women medical college students the ordeal became fearsome. Muruganantham created, designed, tested and implemented an innovative sanitary napkin and asked several women to give feedback only to be rejected. Eventually with no option on hand he tried the experiment on himself and became the first man to wear a sanitary napkin.

Using animal blood and a football shaped like bladder,  while cycling he pressed often to experience the feel the trauma women udergo during mentruation period. With doses of blood he was redesigning and redefining the napkin.

Soon he made a Napkin making machine that operates on a small scale.

Unlike large scale production method used by giant napkin industries which involves expensive machinery which costs as much as 3.5 crores and above as initial installation and investment as a start up cost Jayaashree Industries sanitary napkin making machine can be made available to a buyer for approximately 75,000 Rs.

This opens a common man to adopt the business model propagated by him, and thus generating extra employment opportunity and wealth source in the most neglected sections of society like rural areas.

This can be an excellent support for Self Help Groups who can invest in sanitary napking making unit to create a business that employs up to 10 women per machine.

This machine is capable of making 120 napkins per hour.

Moreover, Mr. Muruganantham has been awarded with the recognition as 2014’s Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World in the company list of Narendra Modi, Barack Obama, Serena Williams, Ronaldo, Xi Jinping, Jeff Bezos, Malala, Shinzo Abe, Beyonce, Putin, Arundhati Roy, Hilary Clinton etc., to name a few of the 100.

This Innovative sanitary napkin making machine accorded the best innovation national award by President of India Prathiba Patil on 18th Nov,09 at New Delhi.
