From ‘Punisher’ to President of Philippines

Despite dubbing Rodrigo Duterte, as an “Executioner” by his rivals who said he would do nothing more than bringing terror to the Philippines, Duterte has won the presidency post by twice as many votes as his nearest rivals.

Mr Duterte has many nicknames to his credit. Crime Buster, Tough Talker, Action Oriented, The Punisher and the list goes on. Well known for his Provocative statements, such as he would kill thousands of criminals without trial and sweep away criminals and corrupt officials from Philippines won him the backing of millions of Filipinos who were frustrated of fruitless governance.

But what is less clear is his bad reputation of provocative comments, what he will do with his job next?. Rodrigo Duterte would bluntly say things that no one would consider to even think to say.

His bold style and his record as mayor of the country’s 3rd biggest city – have made him popular with voters.

Rodrigo Duterte’s Sensational Statements

A vow to kill 100,000 criminals
“Forget the laws on human rights. If I make it to the presidential palace, I will do just what I did as mayor. You drug pushers, hold-up men and do-nothings, you better go out. Because I’d kill you. “I’ll dump all of you into Manila Bay, and fatten all the fish there”.

A ‘joke’ on rape and murder
“They raped all of the women… There was this Australian lay minister… when they took them out… I saw her face and I thought, ‘Son of a bitch. what a pity… they raped her, they all lined up. I was mad she was raped but she was so beautiful. I thought, the mayor should have been first.”

Presidential candidate Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte greets supporters during election campaigning for May 2016 national elections in Malabon, Metro Manila in the Philippines April 27, 2016.

This was during a campaign rally speaking about a prison riot in Davao in 1989 where the prisoners took a female Australian missionary as hostage before raping and killing her. Amongst intense criticism, Mr Duterte said the comment was simply “how men talk”.

“On Comparing with Donald Trump” – He is a racist and I am not”.
Mr Duterte’s weird comments have earned him comparisons with the circumstantial Republican nominee in the US, Donald Trump.

In particular, Mr Duterte has said that the stalled peace process between the Muslim rebels and the government in the island of Mindanao should recruit more rebels and address injustices committed against Muslims.

On Viagra
“I was separated from my wife. I’m not impotent. What am I supposed to do? Let this hang forever? When I take Viagra, it stands up.”

Mr Duterte made this terrible statement to an audience of businessmen of Philippines. He has also bragged about being a womaniser on the campaign trail, saying at an earlier event that he had two wives but now single.

With such a versatile personality we wonder what he would do with his job. In fact he has already offered few policy details. A spokesman has already vowed a profound fix of the political system. On the other hand, after getting to know Duterte’s bold comments, Human rights groups have warned he may repeat what happened in the southern city. When he took office as mayor, the city was haunted by violence, due to communist revolt in the area. The local officials began arming civilian militias to tackle to revolters, and these militias turned into death squads who killed anyone seen as a threat to public order.

Under his direction, the local authorities also built a large integrated emergency response centre and its crime statistics have fallen.

The funny part above all is, He said he would give himself and members of the security forces immunity from prosecution when they leave office, saying “Pardon given to Rodrigo Duterte for the crime of multiple murder, signed Rodrigo Duterte”.

All we can say, is just wait and watch for his next daring comment and action and meanwhile you can shoot your opinion about this article as you like. Share more and more with your friends to keep them posted.
