One Of The Finest Minds At The Bar To Defend Vijay Mallya?
Clare Montgomery To Defend Vijay Mallya's Extradition?
One of the finest minds at the Bar, a brilliant mind, an amazingly quick thinker to defend Mallya?
With the inputs from journalists, it won’t be easy for Indian Government to get back Mallya, if the case goes in the hands of Clare Montgomery’s stellar credentials, unless an equally brilliant counsel takes the job to beat Montomery’s debates in British courts.
Lamster Vijay Mallya may hire Clare Montgomery, the Queen’s Counsel (QC), to guard him against India’s exertion to bring him to trial in India. This means that Montgomery will most likely defend Mallya at the hearings in British courts.
It is to be noted that recently, the Supreme Court of India has directed the Union Home Ministry to arrest and produce fugitive Mallya before it, on 10 July for the hearing on the quantum of punishment for contempt of court.
The Supreme Court has held Mallya guilty of contempt of court for defying its orders by not disclosing his illegal assets and also disregarding the orders of Karnataka High Court by transferring $ 40 million (approx 270 crores) received from British firm Diageo Plc, to his three children.
Diageo is a British multinational alcoholic beverages company and a major producer of beer. Its headquarters are in London. It was the world’s largest distiller until being overtaken by China’s Kweichow Moutai on 9 April 2017.
Smirnoff – the world’s best-selling vodka
Johnnie Walker – the world’s best-selling blended Scotch whisky
Baileys – the world’s best-selling liqueur and
Guinness – the world’s best-selling stout are all Diageo Brands.
QC Montgomery has an extensive experience in extradition, international mutual legal assistance and international criminal law, representing both governments and individuals. She has an exemplary authority in criminal, regulatory and fraud law.
Her weight is felt even by MATRIX CHAMBERS, a barristers’ chambers located in London and Geneva. She mostly works with lawyers outside the UK on national and international criminal cases assisting with strategy and legal challenges.”
Similar to Fortune 500, the agency, which ranks most successful companies in its lists, the Legal 500 who lists most influential lawyers in its list, by Chambers & Partners, has ranked Montgomery in its list this 2017.
It is said that the number of high profile cases which Montgomery have transformed from losing cases to winning cases can count on fingers on one hand. She is the same counsel who appeared for the Swedish Judicial Authority in the Wikileaks founder Julian Assange extradition case.
