Sidhu Backed Out Denying Hijab

Indian Sportswomen Heena Sidhu Backed Out From Asian Airgun Shooting Championship In Tehran, when asked to wear Hijab

Heena Sidhu, the India’s first Indian Pistol shooter to be Ranked World No.1 (as on 7 April 2014) from Punjab, backed out of the Asian Airgun Shooting Championship in Tehran due to a mandatory rule that forces women competitors to wear a hijab.

Heena opined that sportswomen come from different countries with different religions, belief, traditions and culture and it was ‘not in the spirit of sportsmanship’ to make someone force to wear hijab against their will.

Apparently disappointed, Heena Sidhu, who also took part in the 2016 Rio Olympics, tweeted her views.

Sidhu is the first Indian Pistol shooter to have won a Gold medal in the 2013 ISSF World Cup Finals, becoming 3rd Indian shooter after Anjali Bhagwat and Gagan Narang to win a Gold medal in a Rifle/Pistol World Cup Finals.
