I always debated with my friend that one day flying cars would replace road surface cars, and here it is, not far, only a year or two to go. Terrafugia TF-X roadable aircraft cum flying car was founded by graduates of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics which is a small, privately held American corporation that is in the process of developing a roadable aircraft called the Transition and a flying car called the TF-X™.
The Transition and TF-X architecture are designed in such a way that it can fold its wings, enabling the machine to also operate as a street road vehicle.

Cockpit made of glass avionics, carbon fiber construction, and innovative mechanisms enable the Transition® smooth and simple to fly, drive, and convert whenever required. A car like steering and gas and brake pedals on the ground make it mundane to drive while a stick and rudder pedals acts as responsive control in flight.
Like any other aircraft running on premium unleaded automotive gasoline, the same engine powers the propeller in this flight too or the rear wheels on the ground. Converting between flight and drive modes is comparable to putting down the top on your convertible and you can keep the Transition® at home even in your lousy garage.
Terrafugia was started in May 1, 2006, with the initial funding from CEO and founder Carl Dietrich’s US$30,000 Lemelson-MIT Student Prize. The convertible note financing later began at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2006 and ended December 21, 2006, raising US$258,215.
With reservations for airframe number 57 representing an order book of more than US$8 million in March 2009, the company had received fewer than 35 aircraft reservations, but by September 2009, they had doubled that to 70; as of December 2011, 100 reservations were on deposit representing potential revenues above US$25 million.

On May 7, 2013, Terrafugia issued the scion of Transition, called the TF-X. TF-X is a plug-in hybrid tilt-rotor wagon and would be the first fully autonomous flying car with a range of 500 miles per flight.
The fully automated vehicle batteries are recharged by the engine. Though, the roadable aircraft and flying car is expected to launch in between 2015 – 2017 trends predict that it will really hit the market at least six years after Transition (2021)
