Scientists along with researchers have made a breakthrough. The team has designed a self-powered battery-less pacemaker. Astonishingly, It is powered by the beating heart. Before announcing, they have tested this in pigs which showed positive results.
Pacemakers have been implanted into the body through surgery since they improve the rhythmic pattern in the heart. However, one of the major shortcomings of a conventional pacemaker was that its battery lasted up to only 12 years. They have to be surgically replaced which often leads to complications. In order to avoid any sort of infection or internal bleeding this new battery-less pacemaker uses the heartbeat as a natural energy source.
