History of Poodle Dog
The Poodle Dog is supposed to have originated in Germany, where it is known as the pudelhund, but poodle dog has been regarded as the national dog of France where it was commonly used as a water retriever.
Pudel is an equivalent English word to puddle which is derived from the Low German verb meaning “to splash about”, and the word Hund in German means “dog”. The breed was standardized in France, where it was commonly used as a water retriever.
In France poodle dog is known as “Caniche” or duck dog. The poodle dog undoubtedly originated as a water retriever. The present custom of clipping the coat to pattern which enhances the style and general appearance of the dog, comes from the time when as a retriever portions of his coat were shorn to facilitate in swimming.
There are 3 accepted varieties of poodle. The standard poodle which is 43cm (17 inches) at withers. The miniature poodle which is 28 – 38 cms (11 -15 inches) and the Toy poodle which is 25 cms (10 inches) at withers. The poodle dogs have a thick furry coats which is usually trimmed in a number of fashions.
The toy poodle breed is found officially in toy, miniature, and standard sizes, with many coat colors. The poodle comes in variety of colours, such as blues, greys, silvers, browns, cafeau-laits, apricots and creams. The coast may show varying shades of the same colour.
Characteristics of poodle dog
Poodles are intelligent and make a perfect family pets. They are generally inclined to be happy. Poodle needs little exercise and all 3 varieties can be kept in small houses or flats.
Poodle needs daily attention as its full of fur. It must be brushed and combed regularly on daily basis. Trimming needs professional help twice a year.
