Sathish, the winner of inaugural Mahindra Scorpio Times of the India (TOISA) Weightlifter of the Year award in 2015 has won its 3rd Gold Medal in weight lifting at CommonWealthGames 2018.
Satish Sivalingam came first in the men’s 77kg category by lifting a total of 317 kg to win his second successive gold medal at Commonwealth Games.
Sivalingam’s snatches had impressive lifts worth 136kg, 140kg and 144kg. It was the clean and jerk section where he impressed the most, with a successful lift of 169 kg and bettering it with 173kg. In 2016, Sathish made it to Rio Olympics but finished 11th despite a good performance that saw him lift the best weight of 329 kg (148 kg snatch and 181 kg clean and jerk). Satish got training under his coach father, Sivalingam – a former national-level weightlifter.
Surprisingly, all of India’s five medals at CommonWealthGames 2018 till now have come in weightlifting.
